Peak District Dairy – Our Story

Our family has been in farming in Tideswell for years, and we keep around 200 cows just up the road at Heathy Farm, where we’ve got a dairy with facilities for making butter, ice cream, and yoghurt as well as milk. We also have our own free range eggs, and we pack cheeses and distribute other food products made around here. We still do doorstep milk deliveries throughout Derbyshire, we supply many caterers and hotels, and have a fleet of our own Ice Cream vans that visit tourist centres throughout the season. We’ve won awards for our ice cream and our yoghurts, and the diary is well known throughout Derbyshire.

In 2008 we decided to open the Peak District Dairy Shop and cafe here in the centre of Tideswell. We sell all our own dairy products of course, and various other locally made products like jams, pickles, bread, and cakes, plus essentials like sugar- we always try to offer a good price and we compare very favourably with the supermarkets. Upstairs you can come and relax over a coffee and a light snack, freshly made on the premises, or try one of our milkshakes, made with our own milk and one of the 30 flavours of ice cream.

With all the interest in local food in the media, we’re not doing too badly, and we stay open 7 days a week to keep locals and visitors happy.

We think Tideswell Made is a good idea, and hope it helps us all to get a bit more trade.
